A NUDGE IN AN UNEXPECTED DIRECTION

Krillion Hints for October 8, 2026

This is the October 8, 2026 set for our independent Krillion-inspired game.

A little perspective, without giving the whole thing away.

October 8, 2026 · Independent edition

These hints belong to our October 8, 2026 puzzle. They are not the official krillion.io daily solutions. Each prompt defines a bounded list; use the wording to check whether your candidate belongs before thinking about points.

1 / Geography

Name one of Switzerland’s 26 cantons.

A canton is an administrative unit, not simply a Swiss town. Some names overlap with well-known cities, which can make the boundary easy to forget. Think regionally and use a canton name; the answer list shows the exact names accepted by this edition.

Reveal a hint

Think beyond Zurich and Geneva. Use a canton name, not a city within it.

2 / Science

Name a chemical element in group 18: the noble gases.

This is a periodic-table group, not a list of all gaseous elements. Scan the final column rather than collecting gases you know from everyday life. A valid full element name matters more than an unusual-sounding guess from a different group.

Reveal a hint

Look down the rightmost column of the periodic table.

3 / Space

Name one of the eight planets in our Solar System.

Separate the eight planets from dwarf planets before you choose. Work outward from the Sun to build a mental list, then look for a less immediate pick. The prompt is about membership of that list, not distance, size or whether a world could support life.

Reveal a hint

Think beyond our nearest neighbours. Dwarf planets are not included.

4 / Colour

Name one of the seven traditional rainbow colours.

Use the traditional seven-colour convention named in the prompt. The game is not attempting to divide the continuous visible spectrum into scientific boundaries. A specific shade may describe something you can see in a rainbow while still falling outside this bounded answer list.

Reveal a hint

Use the seven-colour sequence, rather than a shade such as teal.

5 / Culture

Name one of the twelve Western zodiac signs.

This question uses Western zodiac sign names. Keep the sign name separate from its associated animal, object or constellation description. Moving around the calendar can help you recall the complete set without mixing it with a different zodiac tradition.

Reveal a hint

Use the sign name, not the animal or object it represents.

6 / Science

Name one of the 20 standard protein-building amino acids.

The question uses the standard twenty-member protein-building set. It asks for a full name instead of a one-letter or three-letter code. Other biologically relevant amino acids exist, but belonging to that wider group is not enough to satisfy this deliberately limited prompt.

Reveal a hint

Use the full name, not a letter code. Selenocysteine and pyrrolysine are outside this set.

7 / Geography

Name one of Canada’s ten provinces.

Provinces and territories are distinct categories for this prompt. Scan the map from one coast to the other, but check that your choice belongs to the ten provinces. A well-known northern place can be geographically Canadian and still not satisfy this particular question.

Reveal a hint

Territories are not provinces. Think east and west of Ontario.

Scoring this set

Every accepted answer receives 10, 30, 60 or 100 editorial points. A less familiar answer may receive a higher tier, but these values do not measure how frequently real players choose it. Each of the seven questions contributes at most 100 points, so the daily total is out of 700. Spelling aliases are supported only where listed in our question bank. Review after playing if you want to avoid spoilers.

How to play our independent edition

  1. Choose daily, a random seven-question classic round, or unlimited practice.
  2. Read the precise category and type one answer before the 25-second clock expires. Turn on relaxed play before starting for an untimed session.
  3. An accepted answer ends the question. An unrecognized answer lets you try again while time remains.
  4. Review the accepted answers, then move on. Seven-question games finish with a score out of 700; unlimited challenges end at zero lives or when you choose to finish. Each seven-question checkpoint restores one life, up to three.

Find a less obvious answer

Start with something you know is valid, then scan a different part of the category. For geography, mentally travel across the map. For science, work through the relevant list. Accuracy comes first: something unusual outside the category earns no points.

Hints and fair comparisons

Hints do not reduce your points, but shared results mark when you used them. Answer pages reveal the whole set, so use them after playing if you want a clean challenge. Scores are for personal practice; we do not run a verified leaderboard.
